The Stupid Deaths of a FW 190A-8 Pilot

    1. Over extended attacking a ki-84, another ki-84 zoomed in behind as I attempted to break off. Ran back to base. Almost made it. OBX got me. Teeth in the dirt.
      Causes: Overextended, too low, lack of SA.
    2. Collided with B-17s engaging in a blind angles, high speed gunnery pass. Direct hit with plane and immediately towered. Corpse rode back in the B-17.
      Causes: Excessive speed.
    3. Collided with Spit 16 in a HO. Bad ditch attempt landing at too high a speed. Smeared parts across an acre of farmland.
      Causes: Pushed a bad situation.
    4. Disconnected due to computer overheating.
      Causes: Weather.
    5. Went to get a cup of coffee. Cable from joy stick entangled leg. Joystick fell on floor and didn't realize autopilot had disengaged.
      Causes: inattention.
    6. HO with a p-39. Got the kill, he got my rudder. bailed.
      Causes: Hmmm...apparently P-39s pack big guns.
    7. Went into a HI yoyo with a Nikki who cut the corner. No E, died. Good job Sarcella. Thought my fellow rooks would get him easily but I was dead wrong. Those 4 cannons blew me into the tower.
      Causes: Playing leap frog with a unicorn.
    8. Collided with a ki84, got the kill, he took off my tail. Captured.
      Causes: Bad HO.
    9. Lost a HO to a spitfire. Bad lag on my connection, took hits after the merge. Plane came apart around me.
      Causes: Excessive lag. Ensure proper bandwidth.
    10. Took off, auto climb, didn't manage the hill 10 miles away...Dental records determined identity.
      Causes: Inattention
    11. I had to prove to a Corsair I could dogfight at low alt. Got the kill a moment before slamming into the surf. It was awesome. Totally my fault. Pushed the whole thing. I'm certain the Corsair pilor was flabberghasted.
      Causes: Hyper Aggressiveness.
    12. Screamed down on an A-20. Got good hits but didn't realize I was now dogfighting very low over a enemy vehicle base with gobs of AA. Very sad. This...is a case of playing the game while half-asleep. Flak blew me into next week.
      Causes: Improper SA, Inattention to one's surroundings.
    13. Head on. Neither of us lived but Smitty got the credit.
      Causes: Bad HO. Need to break off sooner on the HO merge.
    14. Could not clear the B-24s in time to lose my wing.
      Causes: Engaging with lack of energy, exceeded the two second rule.
    15. HOsed down a bunch of b24s. didn't realize it was 999000.
      Causes: Exceeded the two second rule. Need more E, Wrong side of the 3/9 line.
    16. Climbing up on autopilot. Came back in the middle of an ack storm. Lost a wing and that was that.
      Causes: Need to better anticipate potentialities over water.
    17. Went for the radar. One shot killed by player.
      Causes: Need to approach ground target erratically before committing to a shot; telegraphed approach.
    18. Lost the merge, lost rudder. spun out of control. Opponent killed and I got assist. Bailed out.
      Causes: Not enough E to maintain proper firing during merge.
    19. Perfect engage on a pair of B-24s at 20K. Got the first. The second one blew me up even as I got credit for him.
      Causes: Greed Kills.
    20. Landing, 1 shot killed from a GV from JOACH1M. Never saw it, no indication field was compromised.
      Causes: Not certain about this one.
    21. Stayed too long in a dogfight with a K-4. He ran me down and chopped off my wing. Bailed out and captured.
      Causes: Let a E-fight descend into a dogfight.
    22. New low point in cognitive disonance. Didn't need to HO the Tu-2s but, of course, I did. Boom goes the dynamite. Hotard no less.
      Causes: Abject stupidity between seat and joystick.
    23. Allcrap got me as I was de-acking field. Made good progress deacking but...manned guns hit very hard. One ping and towered.
      Causes: Dancing too close the fire.
    24. Kappa got me in a Spit 14. I had no business dogfighting a Spit 14 at alt but...it was fun while it lasted. Kappa managed a high angles shot that took off my rudder and I had to hit the silk. Captured.
      Causes: E-fight descended into a dogfight.
    25. Up high, typing on 200. Nailed by Jester08 flying...not sure. Managed to wiggle enough that Plane didn't explode but had to bail. Captured. Had my external engine sound down to 15 because of FSO. changed it back to 90.
      Causes: improper sound configuration. Lack of SA. Texting while driving.
    26. Massively outnumbered over friendly field. Had friendlies in air but we were 7 to 1 or more swamped. Tried to get a shot on an F4F but didn't watch my six carefully. BluKitty got me flying a Jug. Bailed.
      Causes: Lack of sector level SA.
    27. Another Ho. I got the kill, collided, died.
      Causes: Need to break off sooner on the HO merge.
    28. Overwelmed at base tried to land. Landed. Could. Not. End. Mission. Shot on runway by gp5.
      Causes: Stayed too late at the party.

    29. Smoked two B-17s before Lefty59 took off my wing. Clean bail out. Soooo worth it. In retrospect I should have curved my approach instead of coming in straight even if it was off angles.
    Causes: Willingness to sacrifice an FW 190A-8 for a pair of B-17s. Need to curve the approach.

    HA! Mistakes you can make in almost every plane :)

    I'm usually guilty of #26 (A LOT)

    As I look over my losses I find some repetition that is troubling.

    The frequent loss of rudder I certainly vexing.

    Yeah I find the tail comes off fairly easily on the Dora too. (at least when I fly it LOL)

    At least three of my dirt naps were caused by inattention. Autopilot into hillside, texting while in combat area, tripping off the autopilot while getting up. You would think these are easy to correct but at least 5% - 8% of my losses are of the "dumb and dumber" variety.

    What really surprises me is that I've not had any deaths due to high speed stalls at low altitude. The sort of event wherein I try and pull up and out of a dive and instead lose all lateral control thereby rolling upside down and pancaking into the countryside. I'm not saying this happens often, but, it did have something to do with my choice in moniker.
